Webkit for Android... Hmm

When Android is announced, my first thought was 'we are getting some good firefox on mobile'.
Supprisingly, the Android sdk announced yesterday includes Webkit rather than Gecko.
with the intimate relationship between google and mozilla, it hard not to be surprised by the move. Why would could pick a rendering engine that their services don't fully support? The reason is not obvious to me, could be license could be marketing.
It is both good news and bad news. It is bad because as a firefox fan myself, I’d like to see firefox’s market share goes way up. It is good because as a apple fan I’d like to see iphone’s safari gets more support, since safari is based on web kit. And that could be the reason for google to pick webkit. A unified development evironment for all mobile web developers, not so bad.
